At Mac+Tech, we use Jump Desktop to connect securely to our clients remotely.

Clients can download Jump Desktop Connect by going to www.jumpdesktop.com and clicking on Automatic Setup. This will place an installer on your Mac (usually in your Downloads folder). I can walk you through the setup on the phone, since I will be on the phone with you during the remote session.

However, if you would like to get a head start: Double-click on it (JumpDesktopConnect.dmg), and run the installer that pops up. You will need to enter your computer (user) password to complete the installation.

You will be prompted to Give Permission (you are telling your computer to change the security settings to allow me to control your computer). Whenever you launch Jump Desktop Connect a new security code will be created for a one-time session. When the session is over, no one will be able to control your computer until you give out a new code for another session.

When you click on Give Permission, your System Preferences will open to Security & Privacy. You will then click on the lock in the lower left-hand corner of the window, and enter your user password.

To the right, check the box next to Jump Desktop Connect. In macOS Catalina there is an additional step which I can go over on the phone with you.

Now close the System Preferences and you will see the code (or link) that you will use to allow me to control your computer for this one session. When you read this code to me, I will enter it on my computer and you will see a notification that will ask you to Accept the Screen Sharing Request. Once you do this, both you and I can control your computer. You will see a remote session status box at the top center of your screen. By clicking on the X, you can end the remote session at any time.
